By Rafael Medoff https://www.latimes.com/opinion/la-xpm-2013-apr-07-la-oe-medoff-roosevelt-holocaust-20130407-story.htmlExcerpt: Here’s the paradox. The U.S. immigration system severely limited the number of German Jews admitted during the Nazi years to about 26,000 annually — but even that quota was less than 25% filled during most of the Hitler era, because the Roosevelt administration piled on so many extra requirements for would-be immigrants. For example, starting in 1941, merely leaving behind a close relative in Europe would be enough to disqualify an applicant — on the absurd assumption that the Nazis could threaten the relative and thereby force the immigrant into spying for Hitler. Why did the administration actively seek to discourage and disqualify Jewish refugees from coming to the United States? Why didn’t the president quietly tell his State Department (which administered the immigration system) to fill the quotas for Germany and Axis-occupied countries to the legal limit? That alone could have saved 190,000 lives. It would not have required a fight with Congress or the anti-immigration forces; it would have involved minimal political risk to the president.Every president’s policy decisions are shaped by a variety of factors, some political, some personal. In Roosevelt’s case, a pattern of private remarks about Jews, some of which I recently discovered at the Central Zionist Archives in Jerusalem and from other sources, may be significant.Oct 8CIS2024 /10/02 Cartels, UN, and NGOs Fuel U.S. Border Crisis. They argue against rescheduling or legalizing marijuana, citing its increased potency, addiction risks, and public health dangers such as psychosis and cardiovascular issues. They emphasize that marijuana's medicinal benefits are overstated and advocate for strict federal regulations, including clear labeling and controlled THC concentrations. They believe rescheduling would lower the perceived risks, which could exacerbate its misuse. They urge for detailed federal intervention similar to other prescription drugs.AALM would also like to point out the irony of Trump supporting a drug that is associated with assassins. We know for certain that Ryan Routh, one of the would be assassins, had multiple arrests for simple possession. The word "assassin" has its origins in the Arabic word "Hashashin" (حشّاشين), which referred to a secretive group of fighters during the late 11th to 13th centuries. This group, known as the Nizari Ismailis, operated in Persia (modern-day Iran) and Syria. They were famous for carrying out targeted killings of political and military leaders, often using stealth and surprise. The term "Hashashin" literally means "hashish-eaters," and there is a popular, though historically debated, theory that members of this group consumed hashish (a form of cannabis) before carrying out their missions. Over time, European Crusaders encountered this group, and the term "assassin" entered European languages to describe people who carried out covert killings. You can read the full statement from IASIC belowThe International Academy on the Science and Impact of Cannabis-IASICFormal Position on the Rescheduling of MarijuanaThe Honorable Senator J.D. Vance28 Russel Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510Chairman Michael Whatley, Co-Chair Lara TrumpRepublican National Committee 310 First Street SEWashington, D.C. 20003Dear Senator Vance, Chairman Whatley, and Co-Chair Lara Trump:President Trump has recently come out in favor of marijuana legalization. This is a big mistake. It appears that you are getting bad advice and poor quality information. We are contacting you to request that marijuana NOT be rescheduled to a lesser class of drug under the Controlled Substances Act class schedules, nor moved to full legalization. For many years, significant pressure from the marijuana industry has existed to reschedule marijuana to a lesser CSA schedule so that their drug may be perceived to be safe and thus become more accessible to the public. In our professional opinions, marijuana has actually become a far more potent, toxic, and dangerous drug. No other drug with such a spectrum of problems would ever be rescheduled to a lower schedule. In addition, specific elements that support marijuana continuing to remain in schedule I are:High Abuse Potential1. Thedrug's actual or relative potential for abuse;2. Thescientific evidence of the drug's pharmacologic effect, if known;3. The state of current knowledge regarding the drug;4. Thedrug's history and current pattern of abuse;5.The scope, duration, and significance of abuse;6. Therisk to public health;7. The drug's psychic or physiological dependence liability; and8. Whether the drug is an immediate precursor of a controlled substance. § 811(c).Consistently, our professional review of the scientific literature on marijuana does not support rescheduling, andreview of the literature on the medicinal applications of marijuana strongly suggests that the medicinal applications have been highly overstated. There is no advantage to smoked or vaped forms of marijuana over the readily available prescription medicine Marinol (pure THC). Whether or not marijuana is rescheduled or legalized, there needs to exist detailed federal intervention for requiring clear definition and limitation of use, clear science-proven medical uses, and tightly limited THC concentrations that are clearly demonstrated to not be toxic. Of note, currently available oils and vapes contain 70-90% THC, which is frankly toxic. While certainly not to be considered "safe," a 10% concentration has lower incidence of psychosis, but even that concentration has not been tested across all proposed medical lines of therapy. As physicians, we would like to highlight the increasing marijuana-induced psychosis, the burden of marijuana-induced vomiting, suicidality. cardio and cerebrovascular injury and automobile fatalities which are more frequently appearing in the nation's emergency departments.IASIC has reviewed the scientific and medical research on marijuana in the following areas and has listed these subject areas that existin our library:See www.iasic1.org/libraryCannabis Use Disorder and Addiction AllergiesAmotivational SyndromeAnesthesiaAnxietyCancerCannabis Hyperemesis SyndromeCardiovascular HealthCannabidiolContaminantsDepressionDrug Interactions Emergency Room Visits Effects on the EnvironmentRequired LabelingLife ExpectancyMarijuana Use and Dispensaries in YouthMedical Organization Position StatementsMemoryMotor Vehicle Accidents Neonatal Exposure Neurocognitive EffectsPain and Opioid Use PancreatitisPediatric ExposuresPsychosisPTSDPublic Health Pulmonary Health Schizophrenia SeizuresSuicideVaping WithdrawalRescheduling, and certainly legalization, decreases the perception of harm in the public's view at a time when the drug is being engineered to be more potent and more addictive and consequently a greater risk to patients' physical and mental health.Clear, detailed, and thorough labeling of contents, toxins, demonstrated maximum concentration, precautions, and warnings must be required for any preparations to be sold in the United States. Marijuana should not be treated any differently than any other pharmaceutical product. Labelling requirements and prescribingrequirements should be as detailed and specific as with any other prescription medication.Sincerely,Eric A.
